Michael tried to seem cheerful and happy, but mixed feelings raged in his heart. It was hard for him to accept that Emily might not be who he thought she was. After Michael applied for the marriage license, he decided not to celebrate the event in a restaurant, as is usually done, but went to visit his old friend. He told his fiancée Emily that he wanted to have a bachelor party. The girl enthusiastically supported the idea, declaring along the way that she would also have a fun bachelorette party.
Having separated, the couple went to meet their friends. Michael planned to have a bachelor party later, but first he needed to have a serious talk with a friend who worked in law enforcement. He hoped to find out who would turn out to be the loser in the current situation.

He suggested that it might even be better to formalize the relationship in order to catch the family red-handed if they are really involved in something illegal. And the next evening, when Michael was sitting at home, the phone rang. It was his friend, who excitedly asked him to meet, as he said, for a very important conversation.
Michael, sensing anxiety in his voice, immediately agreed. They met in a secluded cafe where they could talk calmly and not meet anyone they knew. The friend started right away with a serious accusation.
He said that Michael’s fiancée’s family is involved in very dubious affairs. Under the cover of a prosperous company, they organized a channel for selling prohibited substances. These were still suspicions, and reliable evidence had not yet been found.
But law enforcement agencies have long begun to closely monitor the activities of this family. Michael was simply shocked and could not believe what he heard. But the friend continued, adding another alarming detail.
It turns out that his fiancée Emily was previously engaged to another man. But this guy suddenly disappeared, as if dissolving into thin air. Right after they applied for a marriage license at city hall, he was never found.
Emily told everyone that she suspected him of cheating and assumed that he just ran away with another woman. Michael remained sitting in the cafe in shock and thinking about what to do next. He understood that he would need to seriously think it all over and perhaps even make a difficult decision regarding his future with Emily.
Thoughts swirled in his head like a whirlwind. That young and poor guy, who was raised by his grandmother in a small town, suddenly disappeared. This raised many questions, because his wife was from a wealthy family.
It seemed that nothing threatened him in their union and there was no need to run away or hide. Just like with the previous fiancé, Michael also didn’t have a large family. His father died when he was still a child, and the remaining elderly mother could no longer provide him with the support he needed.
It seems that the fiancée’s family preferred to choose grooms who did not have strong family ties. The future wife was believed, and no one even connected the guy’s disappearance with her family. All people just said “So what? That the son-in-law ran away?”.
But everything is fine in the fiancée’s family. That guy is still listed as missing. That same evening, law enforcement offered Michael help in solving the crime, because the matter is very serious, especially since his life is at stake.
Remembering the words that Emily becomes more talkative after alcohol, Michael decided to use this as an opportunity to learn more. And at the bachelorette party, Emily really drank more than usual. Returning home, she was cheerful and relaxed.
