A massive, incredibly loud murmur of pure, unadulterated astonishment violently ran through the entire event hall. “My God, I can’t believe it.” “How on earth is that even possible?” the guests whispered loudly.
I looked directly at Folake, and my angry heart instantly softened. She was barely eighteen years old. Her dark eyes were entirely red and completely full of genuine confusion and fear. It looked exactly as if she too was entirely, unwillingly trapped in this massive, unfolding nightmare.
Shade violently spun around abruptly and began to viciously yell at her younger sister. Her beautiful face was entirely, horribly disfigured with pure, demonic anger. “Shut up right now, Folake! How dare you maliciously make up disgusting lies to entirely ruin your very own sister’s wedding?!”
Her screaming voice was incredibly sharp and vicious. But I clearly saw her painted lips tremble violently, looking exactly as if she were desperately, ultimately struggling to forcefully hide the undeniable truth.
Folake physically backed away from her sister, visibly trembling violently from head to foot. She cried out between loud, heavy sobs, “I am absolutely not lying, sister! I just blindly did exactly what you angrily ordered me to do!”
Her terrified words were exactly like a final, massive dagger that violently plunged directly through Shade’s entire wall of falsehood. It left the entire massive event hall in an absolute state of pure, paralyzed shock. A close, older relative standing nearby slowly shook his head, his voice entirely choked with pure disgust.
“How is it even possible to be so evil as to not even spare an innocent little child?” he asked loudly.
In the absolute middle of the total chaos, Chioma aggressively stepped forward. She was still fiercely hugging Namdi incredibly tightly to her chest. She stated in an incredibly icy, commanding voice, “If you want to stubbornly keep lying and denying it, we can immediately demand to check the security cameras installed in the ceiling of this event hall. Absolutely everything will be cleared up beyond a shadow of a doubt in exactly one moment.”
Her confident words were exactly like a massive boulder thrown violently into a small lake. They instantly caused massive, visible waves of sheer panic to wash over the bride. Shade’s face turned completely ashen. Her painted lips tightened into a thin, white line, and her terrified gaze frantically, desperately darted around the room seeking an immediate escape.
But there was absolutely no escape for her now. She didn’t say a single, solitary word in her own defense. And that total, terrified silence, for me, was the absolute clearest, loudest confession of her ultimate guilt.
Kunle completely froze in absolute horror. His massive hand was trembling violently as it rested protectively on Namdi’s small shoulder. He was staring in absolute, undeniable horror at the woman he had literally just joyfully called his beautiful wife, Shade. His voice entirely broke, sounding exactly as if he were desperately trying to hopelessly cling to the absolute last, tiny shred of hope that this was all just a massive, crazy misunderstanding.
But his devastated, betrayed gaze, rapidly moving from the damning paper to little Namdi, clearly said it all. I clearly saw exactly how his heart violently broke into a million pieces, just exactly like mine had done the moment I initially discovered the evil plot.
An older uncle slowly stood up from his chair and aggressively shook his head, looking totally disgusted. “It is absolutely unbelievable! Such pure, unadulterated wickedness actively happening on a day meant for holy celebration.” His deep voice trembled violently, sounding exactly as if he were desperately holding back his pure, righteous indignation.
After Chioma’s brilliant challenge regarding the security cameras, a truly deadly, suffocating silence entirely took over the massive event hall. Shade, the very woman I had once foolishly, genuinely tried to accept as a true part of my loving family, simply stood there frozen. Her face was completely pale, and her lips were pressed tightly together. She looked exactly as if her racing mind was desperately, frantically searching for one final, plausible excuse.
But the ugly truth was totally exposed to the light, and she had absolutely nowhere left to hide. Kunle, my deeply heartbroken son, slowly walked toward her. His handsome face was completely tense, his dark eyes totally red with unshed tears.
He asked her directly, “Shade… please, just tell me the absolute truth right now. Is it true?”
His deep voice trembled violently, sounding exactly as if he were pathetically begging her for a tiny glimmer of hope that this was all a terrible mistake. But I intuitively knew that deep down in his soul, he also already knew the painful, devastating truth.
Shade quickly took a large step back away from him. She desperately tried to force a highly twisted, fake smile onto her face, but her wide, terrified eyes entirely betrayed her sheer panic. “You… you honestly don’t believe me?” she asked in a completely broken, raspy voice. It sounded exactly as if she were desperately, pathetically trying to fiercely cling to the absolute last drop of Kunle’s blind trust. “It’s all a massive, complicated plan set up by them to ruin me! I swear I didn’t do a single thing!”
But her desperate words sounded incredibly weak and pathetic. They sounded exactly like a tiny gust of wind about to completely die out right before a massive storm hits. I looked directly at her, my old heart incredibly heavy with pure indignation and deep, agonizing pain. This manipulative woman, who I genuinely thought would finally bring my grieving son lasting happiness, was now standing right in front of me entirely unmasked as a total stranger. She was a massive, lethal danger I had foolishly failed to see before it was almost too late.
Chioma, my incredibly brave adopted daughter, gently placed a comforting hand firmly on Kunle’s shaking shoulder. She stated in a voice she was clearly holding back with all her remaining might, “Namdi almost died today solely because of this evil woman.”
Her honest words were exactly as sharp and lethal as a drawn knife.
Shade immediately yelled out in pure, wild desperation. “Shut your mouth! You’re nothing but a highly jealous, pathetic intruder in this family!”
But Chioma absolutely didn’t move an inch. She was violently trembling with pure rage, but she stood completely firm, exactly like an impenetrable shield for Namdi. “How dare you ever call me jealous?” Chioma responded in an incredibly icy, furious voice. “Look this terrified child directly in the eyes right now and loudly tell everyone here that you absolutely didn’t try to intentionally hurt him!”
Namdi aggressively clung to my leg. His little hand squeezed my fingers so incredibly tightly, looking exactly as if he genuinely feared being violently dragged right into that waking nightmare. The hundreds of shocked guests immediately began to rapidly stand up from their chairs. The joyful, festive atmosphere had been completely and utterly destroyed.
A highly respected relative of our family, Mr. Adeleke, violently hit the wooden table with pure anger. “This is an absolute, unforgivable disgrace! We absolutely cannot let this terrible crime go unpunished!”
Loud murmurs of absolute agreement and support were rapidly heard from the crowd. They sounded exactly like crashing waves that grew louder and completely drowned Shade in absolutely everyone’s intense looks of pure, unadulterated contempt.
Kunle, entirely trapped in agony between the horrible truth and his shattered love, cried out loudly. His deep voice was completely broken with pure, agonizing pain and intense, furious indignation. “Namdi is my precious son! You deliberately tried to kill my son at our very own wedding!”
His furious, heartbroken words were exactly like a highly direct, fatal stab right to Shade’s dark heart. I clearly saw her immediately burst into loud, hysterical tears. But I absolutely knew those noisy tears were entirely not tears of genuine repentance. They were purely tears of immense rage for being publicly discovered and humiliated.
I aggressively placed the crumpled paper firmly back on the table. I declared in an incredibly firm, unyielding voice, “Absolutely anyone who deliberately tries to harm my innocent grandson will never, ever have the right to set foot inside this family again.”
My heavy words loudly resonated incredibly clear and totally unyielding, exactly like a judge’s final sentence in a courtroom. Shade slowly looked up at me. Her dark eyes were entirely full of hateful fire, but I clearly saw the absolute, crushing defeat hidden in her gaze. She had violently lost not only to me, but she had lost entirely to the undeniable truth.
